Since 1994 I have been employed doing management consulting projects for financial services companies.
Sometimes when people say "consultant" they mean they were an independent agent working at a company (as opposed to an employee). In my case the job title has always indicated a full-time employee position at a company engaged in consulting work.
Assignments have included strategic, data-oriented, and process-oriented projects for over a dozen of the top 50 North American banks, and 18 of the 20 largest credit card issuers in the U.S.
